The Art of Raku

In this six-session class, students learn about the history of this ancient art form and explore the many forms and glazes associated with Raku. Resident Teaching Artist Yusuf Etudaiye provides step-by-step demonstrations of building forms and discusses various methods for glazing and firing Raku pieces. Due to the size of the kiln, students are limited to creating a total of three (3) medium-sized pieces during this class. WaterWorks brown ($20) and off-white ($25) clay bodies are available for purchase (not included in the tuition). Clay tool sets (optional) are also available for purchase ($15). Pre-requisite: WaterWorks classes Beginning Pottery Wheel, Small Sculpture, or Handbuilding Techniques in Clay or tested ability to create either a hand-built or wheel-thrown pottery piece without instruction. The class is limited to seven (7) students. NOTE: If you have taken this class twice, please refrain from registering to allow others to enroll.
