Italian smalti, a glass paste, was used to create the Byzantine mosaics. In this class, students learn to cut smalti using wheeled glass nippers, how to mix Thinset®, and how to set the smalti into the Thinset® to create a five-inch square piece. Simple patterns are provided. The skipped week (September 17) allows time for student-ordered glass to arrive. All skill levels are welcome in this introductory-level class. A kit fee of $7 (payable to the instructor) covers materials other than the smalti ordered by the student.
