Mokume Gane is a technique to create a metal laminate of contrasting metals. In this four-session class, students learn how to clean, fuse, and forge out a billet of Mokume. Discussion and demonstrations include creating different patterning techniques through forging, stock removal, and use of the rolling mill. During the final class students learn how to enhance the created patterns with acid etching and patinas. Copper, brass, and nickel silver are included in the $30 kit fee (payable to the instructor at the first class). Sterling silver and Shibuichi will be available for purchase through the instructor, if desired. Pre-requisite: Jewelry Basics or Jewelry 101 taught at WaterWorks Art Center.
