WW - A Place of Reflection in Pastel Workshop

In this workshop, we will focus on creating quiet, sensitive paintings of flowing water in the landscape. Using a limited palette to create an effective underpainting, we’ll explore techniques for capturing a stream’s broken yet reflective surface, the earth and stones visible beneath the water, and surrounding elements such as foliage. A supply list will be provided to those who register. All skill levels are welcome.

Note:

Bring Supplies:
• A variety of soft pastels in various colors, temperatures, and values (including earth tones and blues/violets for skies)
• White or light-colored sanded paper such as UART or LuxArchival*
• Sketchbook and pen or pencil for thumbnail sketches
• Some reference photos will be provided, but feel free to bring some of your own.

Isopropyl alcohol and brushes for underpinnings will be provided.

*We'll be using a wet underpainting technique, so you may want to consider having your sanded paper mounted to a panel or foam board for extra rigidity and to keep it from buckling.
