Oxley - Phenology Wheel (Nature's Calendar)

Phenology is the study of the timing of natural events, like the dates when migratory birds return, first sightings of mammals after winter hibernation, and here in Oklahoma, when the first delicate, pink blossoms on Redbud trees emerge in early spring. These cyclical events make up “nature’s calendar” of the year, and these seasonal rhythms offer us humans endless opportunities to pay attention to what’s happening in the natural world.

Join us for a class on how to make a phenology wheel—a visual representation of nature’s calendar month by month—that you can add to every month throughout the year. We will begin by making our wheels, followed by an exploratory walk through the winter woods. We'll take time to sit and sketch our observations into our calendars, then come together at the end to share what we found.
